Privacy Policy

Prapancha Katha ("we", "us") publishes true crime case studies as short vertical videos with written descriptions. This page explains what data is collected when you visit Prapancha Katha, why, and what you can do about it. We've tried to describe what the site actually does rather than list every technology we might one day use.

The short version

  • We do not ask you to create an account, and we do not sell your data.
  • We use Google Analytics to understand which cases people read.
  • Videos are embedded from YouTube and Instagram. When you play one, that platform receives data directly, under its own privacy policy.
  • We do not currently collect email addresses on this site.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 to see how many people visit, which cases are watched, and roughly where visitors come from. To do this, Google sets cookies in your browser and receives information such as your approximate location (derived from your IP address), device and browser type, the pages you view, and how you arrived at the site. Google Analytics 4 does not store full IP addresses.

We use this only in aggregate — to decide which cases to make more of. We do not attempt to identify individual visitors. You can opt out across all sites using Google'sbrowser opt-out add-on, or by blocking cookies in your browser settings.

Embedded videos (YouTube and Instagram)

Each case page embeds videos hosted on YouTube and Instagram. These are loaded from those platforms, which means that when a video loads or you press play, that platform receives your IP address and may set its own cookies — exactly as if you had visited it directly. We have no control over, and no access to, the data they collect.

To reduce this, YouTube videos are embedded throughyoutube-nocookie.com, YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode, which avoids setting persistent tracking cookies unless you actually play the video. Their handling of your data is governed by theGoogle Privacy Policyand theInstagram Privacy Policy.

Settings stored in your browser

The site stores two small preferences locally in your browser so it behaves the way you left it. These stay on your device, are not sent to us, and are not used for tracking:

  • pk-lang — whether you chose English or Telugu.
  • pk-nav — whether the sidebar is collapsed.

Clearing your browser storage removes both.

Hosting and infrastructure

The site is hosted on Vercel, and case content (titles, descriptions, images) is stored with Supabase. Like virtually all web hosts, these providers process technical request data such as IP addresses in server logs for security, abuse prevention and reliability. We do not store visitor accounts or personal profiles in our database — it holds published content only.

Children

This site covers real criminal cases and is intended for a general adult audience. It is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live — including under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act and, for visitors in the EU/UK, the GDPR — you may have the right to ask what data relates to you, to request deletion, or to object to analytics processing. Because we don't operate accounts, the practical routes are: use the analytics opt-out above, block cookies, or contact us and we'll help where we can.

Changes

If we add anything that changes this picture — a newsletter, comments, or advertising — we'll update this page and change the date at the top.
